The number of foreign students at WSB-NLU is increasing each year and one can hear English spoken more and more often on campus. Different cultures and traditions and at the same time a great need and will to integrate them all led to the creation of an online students magazine called Ampersand.
‘The idea for the magazine hatched during our English language classes when we talked about multiculturalism of our school,’ said Marta Balbous, editor-in-chief. ‘We came to the conclusion that we knew too little about one another and the countries we come from.’
On February 27, 2006, the first issue of the magazine called Ampersand or & or a link, came out. ‘The name, Ampersand, is crucial since it carries the message and fully reflects the goals we have established while creating the magazine,’ added Marta. ‘We wanted to create a clear link between the students and to encourage everyone to read in English.’
Ampersand consists of eight sections. So far, the most popular section is Multi-Culty or a cultural mix that presents different cultures and traditions of the countries WSB-NLU students come from.
