TRAVELLING BETWEEN CITIES

Taking a bus
Nowy Sącz is located 100 km from Kraków. One should take Route No 4 direction Kraków-Tarnów-Rzeszów and then from Brzesko continue in the direction Nowy Sącz-Krynica. There are frequent buses from Nowy Sącz to Kraków where one can continue the journey by train, coach or plane.
The state bus company (PKS) offers over a dozen buses a day on the route Kraków-Nowy Sacz–Kraków. A students ticket costs 10 PLN (about 2.5 EURO). One can also take a bus offered by private companies (SZWAGROPOL and TRANS-FREJ). A students ticket there costs 8 PLN and the journey lasts approx. two hours.

Trains

Apart from taking a bus or driving, one can reach Nowy Sącz by train. There are two direct express trains a day on the route Nowy Sącz-Warsaw-Nowy Sącz. The journey lasts five and a half hours. But still we suggest to choose bus as the safer and easier way of travelling

Students Car pool
In the WSB-NLU intranet that is accessible to all WSB-NLU students, there is a virtual information board with offers for passengers. Everyone who has a spare place in a car and is planning a long-distance journey can post a message there. Thanks to this, students who are going in the same direction can ‘hitch a ride’. This information board is especially useful before major holidays when a lot of people travel home and not everyone has a full car. Thanks to the car pool, the journey costs are decreased and a pleasure from someone’s company increases.

TRAVELLING WITHIN NOWY SACZ

Public transport
Although Nowy Sacz is not a big city by most standards, it does have a relatively efficient and reliable public transport system. Students are entitled to a reduced bus fare but need to carry their student IDs with them. Within the city limits the fare is flat (2 PLN) during the day. Night-time fare is double the regular one. Tickets can be purchased at the Ruch kiosks (located at bus-stops) and punched immediately upon boarding the bus. Bus drivers also sell tickets but there is an  extra charge of 0.60 PLN . One can also purchase a monthly pass that enables to travel on all bus lines within the city limits and during daytime.

Taxi
It is usually easier to get a taxi by phone (tel. 9622, 9623 or 9629 – the cheapest and the most recommended taxi companies). The taxi ride from the dormitory to the University costs around 8-10 zlotys. The taxi drivers do not expect you to give them a tip.
